Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How often do you visit?
It depends. In the early planning stage, I work with the family to determine the frequency and nature of the support they need. For some, occasional planning sessions with a family member is all that is wanted; for others, regularly scheduled support is desired. Much depends on the type and stage of dementia, the financial resources available, and what other resources are already in place.
Are services covered by insurance?
Medicare pays for services conducted by healthcare providers. Emily’s services do not meet these requirements. However, she can assist in determining eligibility for long-term care (LTC) insurance and Veteran Affairs (VA) programs for non-medical in-home care. Please send a note here to inquire.
When is the best time to start using Genuine Services?
It’s never too early to take advantage of planning support, which can begin as early as the week of first diagnosis or even before a diagnosis, when concerns about behavior or personality first arise. In that case, Emily can help you navigate your way through diagnostic services and related appointments if you suspect dementia is a possibility.
What is the Creative Care model?
Creative Care is a model of care developed by Anne Basting, PhD. It teaches a compassionate and effective way to interact with those living with dementia, and has shown to help reduce feelings of isolation, loneliness, and confusion. The Creative Care model, based on 25 years of research, incorporates storytelling and active listening, and can benefit the whole family.
What is Gerontology?
Gerontology is the study of aging and older adults. It is a multidisciplinary approach incorporating physiological, biological, and emotional changes taking place. It also involves the social sciences, policy and public health. It differs from “Geriatrics” in that it is non-medical. Both, however, have the same goal: to understand aging.
